Communicative Approaches to Grammar
Implicit and Inductive Grammar Teaching in FLT
There is no easy answer to the question of when, how, and why to teach grammar in foreign language instruction. The question of whether to teach grammar has been debated extensively, but really it is not a question. Without grammar we would all be speaking gibberish. It’s like going on a hike with or without a map. If you don’t have a map, the paths are still there. You can cut through the woods, but there is not telling where you will end up. If you do have a map, you can determine where you want to go and a reasonably direct way to get there. Then again, if you look at the map all the time, you will stumble or stop and get nowhere.
