2024 Theme:

Empowering Multilingualism and Global Engagement

Joint National Committee for Languages – National Council for Language and International Studies (JNCL-NCLIS) informs language educators about ongoing policy and legislation relevant to world languages, ESL, and multilingualism. JNCL hosts multiple events each year in which language educators meet with the offices of Senators and Representatives.

LAD 2024 was my second year participating and was fully virtual. These events have been an eye-opening introduction into language policy at the state and federal level and how educators and their allies can influence the awareness and funding that flow toward language education programs, teachers, and learners. The Michigan delegation was led by Dr. Julie Foss as the Public Affairs representative for MIWLA. LAD 2025 will be in person in Washington, D.C.!
