Responsibilities include:
INSTRUCTOR
- Teach 12 credits per year, primarily now:
- FLT 815 Culture and Intercultural Competence in FLT
- FLT 817 Language Program Development and Administration
- FLT 898 Final Portfolio / Comprehensive Examination (1 credit x 3)
- Designing and facilitating online courses
- Overseeing the development of about 20 portfolio websites per year
DIRECTOR
Responsible for Master of Arts and Graduate Certificate in FLT, professionally-oriented online programs for teachers of world and heritage languages, with 40-50 active students. Tasks fall into the following categories:
- Supervision of Faculty and Students
- Faculty Supervision – core and adjunct faculty hiring, coordination, evaluation, mentoring
- Advising – academic advisor for all current students in MA and Certificate
- Graduate Assistants, Fellows, and FLT Interns – Supervision and mentoring of students working for MAFLT and NLRC
- Student Support – maintain SharePoint, Teams, OneNote, and other resources that improve onboarding, student experience, guidance, transparency, compliance with university policies, etc.
- University Compliance for FLT students – GradPlan, RECR, RVSM and other trainings, vaccination requirements, etc.
- Comprehensive Exam Evaluation and Graduation – chair Evaluation Committee for graduating students in addition to teaching FLT 898 course
- Admissions, Recruitment, and Outreach
- Recruitment – prospective student campaigns, communication, lead management
- Admissions – manage 3 cycles of admissions per year and chair Admissions Committee
- Marketing, Advertising, Outreach – exhibiting at conferences, designing and placing ads, strategy
- Event Planning and Management – graduation, alumni reunion, virtual events
- Alumni Relations and MAFLT Network – supporting virtual community and documentation of program outcomes among current students and graduates
- Program Quality, Procedures, and Strategy
- Leadership and Strategic Planning for Master of Arts and Certificate
- Curriculum Development – supervision of all FLT courses – 10 courses, plus alternate versions of FLT 841 Special Topics
- Staff Coordination related to MAFLT and Certificate – Coordinating with functional team regarding Academic, Office Operations, Finance, HR
- Liaison with CeLTA, College of Arts and Letters, and Graduate School, including College Graduate Committee and Online Program Directors group
- Instructional Technology and Learning Design – maintain software access, procedures, training resources, etc., and alignment among FLT courses
- Budget and Financial Oversight – planning, purchases, records, projections, reporting
- Program Evaluation – documenting program metrics, maintaining records, assessing outcomes, and complying with MSU assessment and reporting
- Research and Related Projects – coordination of projects, and research ethics training for students to enhance collaboration and inclusion
